Safety is one of our five foundations of successful railroading and it starts with knowing and following the rules. Through our CPKC Home Safe initiative, we educate our employees on safety hazards, implement robust safety procedures and provide the leadership, training and resources necessary to uphold a strong safety culture.
A culture of safety
Trouble near the tracks?
Emergency training and response
Our dedicated emergency responders and service teams across North America work closely with communities, law enforcement and government agencies to respond to emergencies, promote rail safety and conduct training to keep people, property and operations safe.
Committed to safety
Operating safely is fundamental to who we are. Our goal is to be the safest Class 1 railroad in North America.
In 2025, for the third consecutive year, CPKC led the industry with the lowest FRA-reportable train accident frequency among Class 1 railroads, building on Canadian Pacific's legacy of 17 consecutive years of industry leadership. CPKC is dedicated to building on this unwavering commitment to safeguarding our people, our communities, the environment and our customers' goods.
Safely moving essential goods across North America
Rail transportation is considered the safest way to transport dangerous goods or hazardous materials over land. Under the common carrier obligation, CPKC is required to move products considered dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
We continually strive to make the transportation of dangerous goods as safe as possible. The movement of dangerous goods is subject to a number of regulations and standards established by railways, government agencies and industry associations.
Building a safe and resilient rail network
Safeguarding our customers' shipments
We understand the critical importance of a secure international supply chain. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all cargo, personnel, assets and operations while maintaining reliability and trust in our services.
